Lauren Flathouse is a licensed Texas attorney and founder of Flat Communications, bringing legal expertise to strategy, governance, and organizational leadership. With 20+ years working in and alongside mission-driven organizations, she advises government agencies, public safety organizations, healthcare systems, and regulated industries on executive advisory, governance, strategic planning, and operational execution.
She previously served as an advisor in county government, working alongside elected officials, department leadership, and legal counsel on infrastructure initiatives, stakeholder engagement, public communications, and cross-departmental coordination — navigating political realities, regulatory requirements, and community expectations simultaneously.
As a licensed Texas attorney and former law firm owner, Lauren developed deep expertise in risk mitigation, contract analysis, compliance, and executive advisory. She understands how governance decisions translate into operational consequences — and helps leadership teams align strategy with execution. She has built four businesses from the ground up and brings that execution mindset to every engagement.

Mark Flathouse brings more than 30 years of experience across fire, EMS, law enforcement, and emergency management — with a career that spans frontline service, executive leadership, and national consulting. A U.S. Coast Guard veteran, his public safety career includes roles as Firefighter, EMT, Fire Marshal, Emergency Management Coordinator, and Fire Chief.
As Fire Marshal and Fire Chief for Fort Bend County, Mark led one of the fastest-growing counties in Texas through significant organizational expansion, hazmat operations, fire prevention, and emergency management coordination. He later brought that operational expertise to Emergency Services Consulting International (ESCI) and other consulting engagements, providing strategic planning, organizational assessments, and long-term planning support to fire and emergency service organizations across the country.
Mark joins Flat Communications as a senior advisor focused on public safety strategy, organizational performance, and leadership development for fire, EMS, and emergency services organizations. His combination of frontline experience, executive leadership, and consulting depth gives him rare credibility with the chiefs, commissioners, and governing boards he works alongside.

Don McKay brings more than 43 years of executive leadership experience across healthcare organizations, physician practices, and health systems nationwide. His career spans the full breadth of healthcare operations — from managing multi-physician, multi-site clinics early in his career to serving as Division Director of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at UT Health East Texas, where he concluded his full-time executive career leading service expansion, facility development, patient access improvement, and operational strengthening.
Throughout four decades, Don has partnered with physicians, executives, and leadership teams to help organizations grow, navigate complex operational challenges, and better serve their communities. His operational expertise includes revenue cycle management, coding and compliance, physician practice management across multi-site environments, and the financial and regulatory disciplines that drive sustainable healthcare performance.
His work is grounded in the belief that lasting success is built on strong leadership, strategic planning, operational excellence, and a genuine commitment to service.
